Our Summer Solstice will continue after 6pm at Jon & Janet's home in Barkisland, for those interested.

Summer Solstice also know as Litha, Midsummer, Alban Hefin or  St Johns Day

At this time everything is in full bloom. The mother (goddess) is pregnant and the Sun (god) is king of summer and is at the peak of his powers. This is a festival marking the longest day of the year. It celebrates abundance, fertility and the beauty of nature.

Often midsummer celebrations re-enact the battle of the oak and holly king in some form.

Midsummer is more of an open event with very little mention of the craft. Often family and friends are invited to take part in the celebrations.

Many groups choose to rise at dawn on the summer solstice to greet the sun on its day of greatest power, this is a practice that isnt confined to witches or pagan groups.
